Q.
Tell
me about Pixie Dust Cakes.
A.
Pixie Dust Cakes was founded and is run by Kris & Phil Kay. Prior
to PDC Phil
has had10 years experience in the catering industry working as a chef whilst
Kris had been decorating cakes for family and friends for the past 8 years
and we are members of the British Sugarcraft Guild. The concept of Pixie
Dust Cakes is not just to produce cakes to a supreme level of quality and
taste but to introduce the opportunity of having totally personalised
cakes that are injected with humour and details that are personal and
individual to each client.
Pixie
Dust products have a very distinctive style, managing to combine fine
detail along side a more robust looking approach to the models – a
little Aardman-esque. The models and details on PDC are created from
edible sugar dough which can be coloured to replicate any colouring of
person, clothing, animal etc. Sugar dough can be moulded into shapes and
forms in a similar way to clay with the exception that when sugar dough
hardens it still remains soft enough to eat.
We do not include any wire supports in our cakes but some models may
contain uncooked spaghetti to assist in support.
We
take great pains to research each customer as thoroughly as possible,
details that may go unnoticed or mean little to an outsider can create the
greatest squeals of delight from the recipient. The devil is always in the
detail and although we don’t do caricatures in the strictest sense we
endeavour to create resembles close enough to be easily recognised by all
who know them, partaking in the activities that define them.

Q.
How
does it work?
A.
Give
us a little information about the recipient such as interests, hobbies,
favourite toys and a description of them; age, hair/eye colour, favourite
outfit etc, and let us create a unique sculpture
in sugar dough.
Any other details that could prove useful such as; if there is to
be a party does it have a theme – Wizards, horses, toboggans.
What could be more perfect than your beloved playing a round of
golf or your child snuggled with their favourite pet as part of a
delicious, memorable, amusing cake? |

Q.
Do you make Wedding
Cakes?
A. Yes
absolutely.
Our wedding
cakes tend to be anything other than traditional. They maybe based on
anything that is relevant to you both as a couple; how you met, a shared
sport, interest or occupation. To
ensure that we get every detail just right it would be useful if you think
about what outfits, colour schemes etc you wish to have incorporated prior
to our consultation – and if you are short of ideas – never worry we
have vivid imaginations and together we will find a design that is special
for you both.

Q.
How
much notice is needed?
A.
We require
5-10 days minimum notice for sponge cakes. Small fruit
cakes are also available from 5-10 days minimum notice, as we make these
up in advance, to allow them to mature.
For large multi layered Wedding
cakes please allow 2 to 3 months notice to ensure availability and that we
are available to deliver and set up your cake, which we can do for a small
cost depending upon your location. That said it is not uncommon for couples
to book some 18 months in advance.
However, we have
flexible spines and will bend over backwards to accommodate orders with
less notice if at all possible. |

delivery/collection. Payment can be made by either Cheque or Postal Order.

Q.
How should I care
for my Cake?
A.
Pixie
Dust cakes do not like being refrigerated as they sweat which could cause
the colours to run. Keep the cake in the coolest room available away from
radiators and direct sunlight in the box provided. Refrigerate after
cutting or freeze to preserve. If you wish to keep the models these must
be removed from the cake and stored with anti- moisture crystals in an
airtight container.
